Leadership Team

John Monahan

Co-Founder

The son of an engineer who worked for Digital Equipment Corporation for 15 years, John was introduced to technology at a very young age. A 1992 graduate of East Tennessee State University with a Bachelors of Business Administration and as a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, he leveraged his education and fraternity experience and strived to use his social skills to build a sales career. John became the top sales representative for his previous integrator, winning President's Club accolades for 10 consecutive years and meeting sales goals that exceeded $20 million in annual revenue.

With more than two decades of IT enterprise sales experience, John loves to analyze how organizations run, using that insight to show clients how technology can enhance their operations for today and position them for long-term success. His sales certifications include multiple platforms across the nation’s leading IT manufacturers.

After working as a corporate and independent sales manager, John co-founded Convergent Technologies Group, where he serves as managing partner and chief financial officer. John is the day-to-day contact for all manufacturer and vendor relationships, finance and administration, as well as for CTG’s major enterprise customers.

Jeff Garell

Co-Founder

Jeff entered the technology industry more than 30 years ago, when he joined the US Air Force. Working with a variety of traditional (mainframes) and emerging (LAN, Ethernet, 10Base-T) technologies, Jeff served as a mainframe operator, database administrator, programmer, network administrator, cable puller and chief of his communications unit. His military accolades include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster and the Air Force Achievement Medal.

In 1995, Jeff decided to leave the Air Force, moved to Richmond and joined an IT consulting company. His work there included national and international projects with Reynolds Metals, the World Bank, and many federal agencies and Fortune 500 companies. During this time, he was part of the team that built Richmond’s first independent Internet Service Provider and eventually went on to run a division.

In 2003, Jeff started an independent consulting firm before becoming a founding partner of Convergent Technologies Group two years later. His roles at CTG are many and varied, but he finds himself happiest when getting his geek on.

Jeff is proud to have been named TIME’s “Person of the Year” in 2006. (For those who don’t recall, the magazine recognized the millions of us who contribute to various Websites from Wikipedia to Facebook.)
